Who am I and why should you read this blog?

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Shannon Smith.  Why should you listen to me?  I don’t just preach it, I live it. I won’t tell you to do something that I’m not already doing myself or haven’t tried already in the past, and believe me, I’ve tried just about every different diet plan and training program that I thought was worth giving a shot, and even some that weren’t just for shits and giggles.

What I do, works! I’m not interested in “Lose 5 kilos and get that body you always wanted” with ‘such and such’ celebrity trainers starvation diet from Women’s (kill me now) Weekly, because the results don’t last! I’m interested in consistency. The wealthy people in the world (at least those who stay wealthy) aren’t that way because they hit it hard for a few weeks and then take a breather…they are wealthy because work hard consistently. Having a strong, healthy body that looks as good as it feels is hard work, and to maintain it will always be hard work. There will always be the genetically gifted who find it easier to stay lean and muscular. If you are one of those congratulations and if not…sorry, you should have chosen better parents and accept that you’ll need to work for it!

Easy for me to say, I’m a personal trainer? Well let me briefly share with you my story. After staying up late one night, hiding behind the couch to watch Bruce Lee in “Enter the Dragon”, I’d found my hero. This super ripped squealing Asian guy was the man. I was hooked, and for the next 19 years Martial Arts was my life. I lived it, breathed it and trained almost every day, sometimes up to 4 hours at a time. I attained a second degree black belt in Karate and Ju Jitsu, a black singlet in Muay Thai Kickboxing and competed at a National level. By the time I hit 19 I was fit…really fit. But with the genetic traits of an ectomorph (lean with thin bones), I was a light weight (62kg’s) or super light weight at best. I had been beaten up all my life sparring against guys that were 10-25kg’s heavier than me and I’d had enough…it was time to put on some muscle.

After studying PE at school and completing my first Personal Training course at Tafe (back then it was more than a 6 weeks course), I set out to learn from the best and I’d found something new that I was completely in love with…lifting weights, and now I was really ready to learn. Everywhere I went I tried to surround myself with knowledgable trainers…big trainers. I’ve trained along side a heavy weight Mr Britain, former Mr Austria and been mentored by a guy who has trained a Miss World and current heavy weight Mr Universe (amateur). I’ve spent a small fortune on my education learning from the best in the industry in Europe and Australia and even trained an Olympic athlete along the way.  It’s taken me 10 years of weight lifting to put on 13kg’s of muscle to achieve the modest physique I have today. I’ve trained clients that have achieved the same results in less than 2 years but as I said we are not all genetically gifted. Have I got qualifications? Yeah loads. But let’s be honest, you don’t really care about my qualifications. The most important thing that you need to know is that I can get you results; GREAT results.

I’ve all ready bored you enough with my story, and this blog is not intended to be a sounding board for my own ego, but now you have some back ground as to who I am and how I got here. I will blog because of I get a kick out of seeing people change and because I sincerely want to help you. I know what it’s like to want to change, and hopefully with my help and your hard work we can make that happen.

Next time I blog there will be some stuff you can actually use…promise.

Your friend in strength and health,

Shannon.
